: : I was just curious, does Down Syndrome occur in African American and Asians? I have never encountered or seen an African American person with down syndrome and it led me to wonder whether or not this genetic disorder was designated to a specific race. Is it mainly a white disorder, occuring least often in African Americans and Asians? If anyone could give me an answer or more information that would be great.

: It occurs in all races. In fact, I just encountered a picture and bio of a Chinese child with Down at http://leeworks.net/DDS/

I am african american, and my daughter has downs syndrome. So to answer your question, yes. And the number of instances in blacks are just as much as any other race.
